Vienna, July 5, 2026

After 13 hearing days, the trial — also followed internationally — against two former representatives of the Syrian regime of Bashar al-Assad at the Vienna Regional Court will conclude on Monday with closing arguments and the verdict.

Since the beginning of June, the former head of Department 335 of the Syrian intelligence service, Khaled Al H., and the former head of the criminal police in Raqqa, Moussab Abou R., had to answer to a panel of lay judges. A total of 21 civilians are listed as victims in the charges against them.

The prosecutor accuses Khaled Al H. of the crimes of torture, severe coercion, sexual coercion, as well as a large number of aggravated assaults. Moussab Abou R. must answer for aggravated assault, severe coercion, and sexual coercion.
