In the escalating wage dispute at Volkswagen, the works council is stepping up the pressure on group CEO Oliver Blume, inviting him to additional works meetings at the Wolfsburg, Emden, Zwickau and Osnabrück sites after the summer break.

Background: What is at stake?

The situation at Volkswagen ahead of the plant holidays is extremely tense. According to information from the group, the potential job cuts add up to up to 100,000 worldwide. This already includes 50,000 jobs that are to be eliminated by 2030 anyway. A further 50,000 would be added in calculations if labor costs are not changed – Blume described this on the VW intranet as a "theoretische Ableitung" and explicitly as a worst-case scenario without countermeasures.
