New York, September 22, 2026
A US court in New York is set to announce the sentencing of former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein on Tuesday, while a trial in Los Angeles concluded in the summer of 2025 with a split verdict.
Background of the proceedings
Weinstein was convicted of sexual crimes in New York in 2020, but the sentence was overturned and a new trial ordered. He has since been awaiting a fresh decision, which is now expected to be handed down this Tuesday.
The Los Angeles trial was marked by a mixed outcome: The jury found Weinstein guilty on one count of serious sexual crimes against one woman, but not guilty on another count of serious sexual crimes against a second woman.
The allegations against Weinstein played a key role in launching the MeToo movement, after the New York Times and the New Yorker, among others, reported in 2017 on abuse accusations against the producer.
