Austrian discus thrower Lukas Weißhaidinger has assessed his ambitions ahead of the European Championships in Birmingham and at the same time dismissed a possible competition in Ramona (Oklahoma) as unrealistic.

Weißhaidinger has been one of the figureheads of Austrian discus throwing for years. Ahead of the European Championships in Birmingham, the athlete from Upper Austria takes a sober view of his starting position. „Kann so oder so ausgehen“, he said of his assessment with a view to the European Championships squad – a mixture of self-confidence and the experience that many factors come together on a competition day.

The form curve of the ÖLV record thrower has recently been inconsistent. After strong performances in the spring, he struggled for consistency in the summer season. All the more reason for his focus now to be on Birmingham, where he wants to measure himself against the European competition. In the annual world list, he trails the leader, but he considers the starting position to be open.
