Wiesberger Frustrated as Steinlechner and Straka Shine at Kitzbühel Golf Event

Sepp Straka, the first of 14 Austrian Golf Federation (ÖGV) players to tee off at 7:50 a.m., also enjoyed the atmosphere. "Es war ein super Support, das hat mir wahrscheinlich am Anfang auch ein bisschen geholfen," Straka said, despite his second shot landing in the water.

In contrast, Bernd Wiesberger had a day to forget. The 40-year-old was visibly upset as he entered the interview zone, summarizing his round with a quote from Rory McIlroy: "Ein sehr guter Spieler hat vor zwei Wochen zu seiner Runde gesagt 'shit!'. Das fasst es ziemlich gut zusammen."

Wiesberger lamented leaving too many chances on the course. "Das war ein sehr frustrierender Tag auf allen 18 Löchern," he said, calling it "Ein Tag zum Abschreiben, hoffentlich der schlechteste diese Woche."

The 33-year-old Austrian played a round with five birdies and one bogey, showing a solid overall performance but leaving opportunities on the putting green. His score was not enough to keep pace with the leaders.

Tournament Casualties and Crowd Support

Matthias Schwab saw his tournament end despite a strong effort. His round of 64, six under par, was not enough to make up for a 75 from the previous day, missing the cut by two strokes.

For eleven of the fourteen ÖGV participants, Friday in Kitzbühel marked the end of the tournament. The event, with a purse of 2.75 million dollars, drew more than 7,000 spectators to the Golfplatz Kitzbühel-Schwarzsee-Reith.

Straka praised the crowd's energy. "Gestern war es schon wahnsinnig gut, aber unfassbar, wie die Stimmung heute war. Dieses Publikum würde ich jederzeit nehmen," he said.

At the top of the leaderboard, England's Andrew Johnston surged ahead with a remarkable 62, reaching 11 under par and setting the pace for the weekend.
