London, July 7, 2026
The round of 16 match between Alexander Zverev and Jiri Lehecka at the Wimbledon Championships was interrupted late in the evening due to the traditional 11pm curfew on Centre Court.
With the score at 6:4, 7:5, 3:3 in his favor, the match was suspended shortly before 11pm local time. As the organizers announced, the 11pm local time curfew (midnight CEST) serves on one hand to protect local residents from noise; on the other hand, according to the organizers, it ensures that visitors can get home using public transportation. No play is permitted on the grounds after 11pm.
Delayed start due to long earlier-round matches
Due to the lengthy duration of the preceding matches, Zverev did not step onto Centre Court until 8:41pm local time for his fourth-round clash against the Czech world No. 14, Lehecka. In particular, the five-set thriller involving local favorite Artur Fery, who prevailed against Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov to the cheers of the tennis fans, lasted nearly four hours and significantly delayed the start of play.
