Alexander Zverev's round of 16 match against Czech player Jiri Lehecka at the Wimbledon Championships was suspended late on Monday evening due to the curfew in effect shortly before 11 p.m. local time, with the score at 6:4, 7:5, 3:3 from the German's perspective.
Match Play Until the Suspension
Due to the 11:00 p.m. local time curfew, the French Open winner will continue his round of 16 match against Czech player Jiri Lehecka at a score of 6:4, 7:5, 3:3 today.
Because the first two matches beforehand lasted a long time, Zverev did not enter Centre Court for the match against the Czech world No. 14 Lehecka until 8:41 p.m. local time. The matches scheduled before it on site had simply taken too long — especially the five-set thriller of local hero Artur Fery, who defeated Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov to the cheers of the tennis fans.
After a shaky start and three break points against him, he delivered a focused performance. With a smash, he then claimed Lehecka's fifth service game to make it 5:4 and shortly afterward took the first set. The same picture in the second section, in which Zverev again had to fend off two break points. With a strong backhand shot at deuce, he converted his second break point chance for the decisive break, before the 29-year-old prevented the tiebreak with a love service game.
