London, July 13, 2026
The Italian tennis professional Jannik Sinner has won the Wimbledon final against the 29-year-old Alexander Zverev 6:7, 7:6, 6:3 and 6:4, thereby defending his title from last year.
The final on July 12, 2026, which was reported on by Deutschlandfunk, among others, on 07/12/2026, began promisingly for Zverev. The German player secured the first set in a tiebreak 7:6, thereby giving himself an early cushion. What followed was an evenly matched contest in which both players served at the highest level and allowed few chances.
The second set also had to be decided in a tiebreak, this time with the better ending for Sinner, who took the set 7:6. Zverev was, however, able to level the score in the third set, at least initially. At 7:6, 6:7, 3:3 came the decisive scene: Sinner played a drop shot that Zverev tried to reach on the sprint but slipped on the grass and fell.
