Brandenburg's Minister President Dietmar Woidke is, according to his own statements, examining a joint electricity price zone with regions in Poland

After a meeting with the Marshal of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship, Paweł Jarosław Gancarz, Woidke said that Brandenburg is exploring the possibility of a joint electricity price zone with regions in neighboring Poland. "Wir sind dabei, auch dieses zu prüfen mit polnischen Regionen. Das sei aber ganz in den Anfängen," the Minister President explained. Such a joint zone would have an impact on electricity prices, "nämlich auf niedrigere Strompreise auch in Brandenburg."

Proposal from Schleswig-Holstein as the Trigger

The occasion is a proposal from Schleswig-Holstein. Its Minister President Daniel Günther (CDU) had already expressed openness to a joint electricity zone with western neighbors. Woidke also pointed out that Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg, and parts of Lower Saxony were already examining "ob eine engere Zusammenarbeit grenzüberschreitend in Europa, in dem Fall mit Dänemark, möglich ist." The Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) in Schleswig-Holstein proposes a joint electricity zone for Schleswig-Holstein and Hamburg with Western Denmark.
