SC Paderborn played VfL Wolfsburg to a draw in their Bundesliga relegation playoff match on Friday night.
The match, played at Wolfsburg's Volkswagen Arena, saw the hosts dominate possession but fail to convert their chances into goals. Wolfsburg had 17 shots on goal by the 70th minute compared to Paderborn's 2, but couldn't find the breakthrough.
Paderborn had the first big chance in the 9th minute when Santiago Castaneda hit the left post. Wolfsburg's coach Dieter Hecking surprisingly didn't start top scorer Mohamed Amoura or midfielder Lovro Majer, which may have contributed to their lack of cutting edge.
The game saw some controversial refereeing decisions, with Paderborn's Robert Müller committing a foul that could have been a red card but only receiving a yellow from referee Benjamin Brand. Later, Jonah Sticker of Paderborn did receive a red card in stoppage time for repeated fouls.
