Separate Alpine accident in Sölden

A separate rescue incident was also reported in the Austrian Alps around the same period. A 23-year-old fell 20 meters into a glacial crevasse in Sölden and was found unconscious, according to a report headlined "Rettungsaktion: 23-Jähriger stürzte in Sölden 20 Meter in Gletscherspalte und wurde bewusstlos." The two incidents are not directly connected but both highlight the strain placed on Alpine and pre-Alpine emergency services during severe weather.

Police have asked members of the public who were on or near the lake at the time of the accident to come forward with any information, photographs or video recordings. In particular, users posting on social media about the storm have been urged to share their original footage with the investigators, as it may help reconstruct the sequence of events leading to the woman's fall.

Appeal for witnesses

As of the evening of 5 August 2026, the woman had not been located and the search was continuing under difficult conditions. Authorities have not released her name, age or nationality, citing privacy rules and the fact that next of kin had not yet been fully informed. The investigation is being handled by the Kriminalpolizei together with the water police.

Weather forecasters have warned that further thunderstorm cells could pass over Lake Constance in the coming days. The German Weather Service has advised boat operators to check conditions before setting out and to wear life jackets at all times. Lake Constance is one of the largest and busiest inland bodies of water in Europe, with heavy traffic from both leisure craft and commercial shipping throughout the summer months.
