Women's Bundesliga: Austria Wien once again fails to leave the pitch as winners in Vienna

At the summit of the table, Sturm Graz remain in control. The Graz women recorded a clear 3:1 (3:0) victory over the Spielgemeinschaft Südburgenland/TSV Hartberg on Saturday, further extending their lead in the league. With this success, Sturm increases the gap to their pursuers and underlines their title ambitions.

Sturm Graz extends its lead

The number one pursuer remains SK St. Pölten, who handled their task with composure. In their home match against Red Bull Salzburg, the team from Lower Austria prevailed 2:0 (1:0), collecting three important points in the battle for the top spots.

The points were also shared in the match between SPG Union Kleinmünchen and FC Blau-Weiß Linz against SK Rapid: the encounter ended 1:1 (0:1). Rapid thus took a point away from home and remain in mid-table.

Table standings after matchday eight

In Vorarlberg, SCR Altach and LASK drew 2:2 (1:0). Both teams showed strength in attack and produced an evenly matched duel that ultimately produced no winner. The Vorarlberg women and the Linz women each take a point home.

After matchday eight, Sturm Graz lead the table with the lowest points-loss tally. SK St. Pölten follow in second place, closely chased by Red Bull Salzburg. Following recent results, Austria Wien find themselves back in mid-table and must pick up points in the upcoming fixtures to avoid losing touch with the top.

In the second tier of Austrian women's football, the 2. Liga, the battle for promotion is being fought in parallel. The results from this round are also likely to cause movement in the table, even though media attention over the weekend focused primarily on the Vienna derby and Sturm Graz's place at the top.

Austria Wien now faces an English week, in which the team must show that they can learn from the recent setbacks. The coaching staff and players emphasized after the match that the season is still long and that they want to continue competing for the top places.
