Xi Jinping calls on CCP to demonstrate strength and continue anti-corruption fight on 105th founding anniversary

Call for unity

Before the assembled officials, Xi Jinping declared: «Ein starkes Land braucht ein starkes Militär». He appealed to his comrades to continue the «Kampf gegen Korruption» within the party. The message is aimed at strengthening discipline within the party and maintaining the image of clean, efficient leadership.

Policy on Taiwan

At the same time, Xi Jinping took a combative stance toward the democratically governed island republic of Taiwan. The party would unite the «taiwanischen Mitbürger», resolutely oppose the «separatistischen Kräfte» seeking Taiwan's independence, and resist outside interference, he said at the ceremonial event. Beijing refers to this as the «Ein-China-Prinzip» — the assumption that there can be only one China.

Taiwan has been governed since 2016 by the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which Beijing views as separatists because it advocates independence for the island republic. The DPP is currently led by Lai Ching-te. In the tensions Beijing refers to as the "Taiwan question," the goal is to bind the independently and democratically governed island to the People's Republic.

Military modernization

Xi Jinping described the international situation as a phase of coexisting "strategic opportunities and risks" and growing uncertainties. The world stands once again at a "crossroads," he declared. The party must prepare for «stürmische Zeiten», he added.

On the military front, Xi demanded that the development of the People's Liberation Army into a "world-class army" be completed by the year of its 100th anniversary in 2027. With this, he linked the parade address to a clear commitment to the rearmament and modernization of the armed forces.

Background: 105 years of the CCP

The Communist Party of China was founded in July 1921 in Shanghai and, according to official figures, now has more than 101 million members. The annual founding anniversary on July 1 is one of the country's most important political occasions and is marked by grand ceremonies.

In his speech, Xi Jinping tied together several central lines of party leadership: internal discipline through the anti-corruption campaign, foreign-policy unity in dealing with Taiwan, and military modernization as a response to a global situation seen as riskier.

Observers interpret the speech as an attempt to mobilize the party internally and signal unity externally. The simultaneous emphasis on "opportunities" and "risks" points to a more cautious yet resolute strategy for the years ahead.
