Mainz, July 17, 2026

ZDF is discontinuing its crime series "Ein Fall für zwei" after 46 years; following the final season with four episodes, which is to be broadcast next year, a 90-minute concluding film is planned, which is to be shot in 2027.

ZDF justifies the cancellation with a realignment

The public broadcaster in Mainz explained that it was ending the series, even though it had helped shape the Friday crime slot for more than four decades. ZDF described the decision as the result of "reiflicher Überlegung" and announced that the Friday crime slot format would continue "mit einer stärkeren Fokussierung auf wenige Formate." At the same time, the broadcaster pointed to a new offering that would expand the Friday crime slot and "das bislang vorherrschend urbane Krimiangebot" of ZDF "um eine landschaftlich geprägte Facette." Despite the same title, ZDF spoke of a "vollkommen neue Serie."
