Rennes, 25 May 2026
French police arrested a 16-year-old male and a 15-year-old female in Rennes on Monday in connection with the death of an 11-year-old boy, whose body was found in a wooded area along the Vilaine river on Sunday afternoon.
Discovery and Immediate Response
The arrests were announced by Frédéric Teillet, the public prosecutor of Rennes. Teillet confirmed that an investigation for intentional homicide of a minor under 15 had been opened. He also corrected the victim's age, which had previously been reported as 12, clarifying that the child was 11 years old.
The victim was discovered after a fisherman alerted police upon hearing screams of a child, authorities said. The fisherman contacted emergency services on Sunday afternoon, leading officers and medics to the scene in an affluent neighborhood near the city center.
