22-year-old motorcyclist dies in accident on the B72 in Styria

Despite all the rapid efforts, the 22-year-old succumbed to his severe injuries directly at the scene. An emergency doctor was ultimately only able to confirm the man's death.

Cause of accident still unclear

According to the emergency services, the accident occurred in a section of the B72 near Thannhausen in the district of Weiz. The route is considered a heavily traveled connection between Weiz and Anger and is also frequently used by motorcyclists.

B72 closed for hours

For the duration of the operation, the affected section of the B72 had to be completely closed. The closure lasted until shortly after 1:30 p.m. During this time, traffic was diverted locally, as the police announced.

The incident is part of a series of motorcycle accidents in Austria during the summer months. Just recently, a 26-year-old motorcyclist was killed at Mondsee in Upper Austria during an evasive maneuver after a car driver had fled the scene. The accumulation of such accidents has once again sparked a debate about safety on popular motorcycle routes.
