A 31-year-old woman from Wels died in a stand-up paddle outing on the Traun during the night into Sunday, as police reported.

According to investigators, the young woman had been out on the Traun at night on stand-up paddleboards with her 38-year-old partner from St. Marienkirchen an der Polsenz in the district of Eferding. Their destination was the Traunspitz, a few kilometers from Wels, where they planned to spend the night. The accident, which proved fatal for the woman, ultimately occurred on the river.

Emergency services were alerted in the early hours of Sunday morning. As police reported, the woman's 38-year-old companion recounted that his partner had suddenly screamed at around 4:30 a.m. She had then disappeared into the water. The man immediately began searching for the missing woman, and rescue services, firefighters, and police were also dispatched to find her.
