A 37-year-old man went under on Saturday in the Binsfeldsee in Speyer and is presumed to have drowned, after which the city imposed an immediate swimming ban in the northwestern area of the body of water.
Course of the incident
The man got into a distress situation while swimming on Saturday at around 2:20 p.m. for reasons that have yet to be clarified, as the city's fire and civil protection service reported. Witnesses reportedly observed this and attempted unsuccessfully to rescue the man. He could then no longer be located.
Immediately after the alarm was raised, lifeguards from the locally based DLRG Speyer launched a search for the missing person, the city's fire and civil protection service said. The Speyer Water Rescue Rapid Response Group and the Medical Rapid Response Group were also deployed.
