Missing person report triggers major operation
The emergency call that set the rescue chain in motion did not come from the victim himself. Relatives had reported the climber missing to the Salzburg police in the afternoon. Since the 57-year-old had been traveling in the border area between Bavaria and Austria, the emergency services of both countries coordinated the search. A large-scale search operation followed from Austria, in which Bavarian officers also participated.
