Two German mountaineers died on Saturday in two separate accidents in the Austrian Alps, one in the Ötztal Alps near Sölden and another on the Mindelheim via ferrata on the border between Vorarlberg and Bavaria.
As the news agency APA reported on Saturday evening, citing police, the first fatal accident occurred in the municipal area of Sölden in Tyrol. In the Ötztal Alps, a 63-year-old lost his balance for reasons as yet unknown and fell around 200 meters. He died at the scene of the accident.
According to the information, the group was on a guided tour from the Taschachhaus via the Taschachferner toward the Wildspitze. During the descent, no one used a rope. Throughout the entire descent stage via the southwest ridge, the group had been traveling without rope protection, according to the available information.
