68-year-old mountaineer fatally falls near the Zugspitze in the Wetterstein Mountains

The rescue teams concentrated their search on the area around the Jubiläumsgrat, a demanding high-alpine ridge between the Zugspitze and the Hochblassen, which is regarded by experienced mountaineers as an extremely exposed route. Working outward from there, the mountaineer was eventually found after having fallen several meters.

According to the information provided, the deceased was from Baden-Württemberg and had traveled to Murnau am Staffelsee to start his tour in the Wetterstein Mountains from there. The man's identity was conclusively established through documents after the police measures were completed.

The Garmisch-Partenkirchen mountain rescue service and the Alpine Operations Group of the police expressed their condolences to the deceased's relatives and at the same time praised the cooperation of all the rescue services involved. The search had been carried out in a coordinated and swift manner despite the adverse conditions.
