A 64-year-old German mountaineer from the Darmstadt district suffered a fatal accident during his descent from the Olperer in the Zillertal Alps near Ginzling.
Background to the course of the accident
The man was out on the Olperer in high-alpine terrain on Saturday when the fateful accident occurred during his descent. According to current findings, the 64-year-old fell for reasons that have yet to be clarified and sustained fatal injuries.
The Ginzling and Tux local mountain rescue stations were alerted to recover him and clarify the circumstances. Mountain rescue forces found the victim and were only able to confirm the man's death.
As the rescue teams reported, the 64-year-old had previously been out together with his son. After the accident, the son was cared for by the emergency personnel. The exact course of the accident is the subject of further investigation.
