77-year-old motorcyclist from Styria critically injured in accident in Lower Austria

The car driver and his seven-year-old daughter, who was in the back seat of the car, were uninjured according to police. However, both were shaken by the incident.

The accident occurred on Saturday morning in the rural area of Krumbach in the Wiener Neustadt district. Federal Highway 55, colloquially also known as the B 15, runs through the Bucklige Welt region and connects several Lower Austrian municipalities.

Investigations into the cause of the accident

Investigations have been initiated to clarify the exact sequence of events. Experts are to determine, among other things, whether the motorcyclist was still able to brake in time at the time of the turning maneuver and what the visibility conditions were at the intersection.

The intersection of the B55 with the L4179 and the L145 is considered a problematic point in the road network of the Bucklige Welt. Residents have been reporting for years that the turning situation there is unclear and are calling for better visibility protection measures or a roundabout.

The intersection as a risk point

Emergency services from rescue, fire department, and police were deployed on Saturday morning. An emergency medical team also cared for the injured person at the accident scene before the helicopter transport took place.

The B55 runs through a hilly, partly winding landscape that is popular with motorcyclists. On nice weekends, the route regularly sees increased traffic from motorcycle groups and day-trippers.
