The ADAC compared all approximately 360 highway service stations with the roughly 14,000 filling stations in the rest of Germany and found that fuel on highways costs an average of 33 cents more per liter.

First Comprehensive Survey

According to the automobile club, the ADAC analysis presented on July 7 is the first survey to include all highway service stations in Germany. Previous comparisons were based on smaller samples, the ADAC said. For the period from April 6 to 19, the analysts determined an average price difference of 33 cents per liter, which applies to both diesel and Super E10.

For a full 50-liter tank, this corresponds to a saving of 16.50 euros by exiting the highway to refuel. The ADAC stated that the survey shows "quite clearly" that it is worth "leaving the highway to refuel and heading to a nearby station off the highway."
