As the motorway operator Asfinag announced on Monday in a press release, a total of 8,915 tons of waste were collected on Austria's motorways and expressways in 2025. This represents a decrease of 105 tons compared to 2024, when the figure stood at 9,020 tons. Nevertheless, littering remains a major problem for the operator and for road safety.

According to Asfinag, the largest amount of waste last year was collected on the expressways and motorways in Lower Austria, namely 1,975 tons. Upper Austria followed with 1,504 tons and Tyrol with 1,380 tons. Carinthia ranked fifth in the national comparison with 1,305 tons.
