Austria's coalition government of SPÖ, ÖVP and Neos has announced plans to simplify approval procedures so that schools can respond more quickly to heatwaves and carry out climate-related renovations.
The initiative, presented by officials including Andreas Babler, Christoph Wiederkehr and Norbert Totschnig, is aimed at cutting red tape around heat-protection measures at school buildings and on schoolyards (Schulhöfen). According to the verified statements, schools will in future be able to take site-specific action based on the heat-warning levels published by GeoSphere Austria, the country's national weather and geophysics service.
