Vienna, 02 July 2026
Austria's farmers are bracing for a sharply reduced grain harvest in 2026 as prolonged dryness, heat, and drought continue to damage crops across the country, the president of the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture said on 1 July.
The outlook for Austria's 2026 grain harvest has deteriorated markedly in recent weeks, with farmers and agricultural officials warning that dry conditions and repeated heat waves are cutting yields across the country's growing regions. Speaking on 1 July, Josef Moosbrugger, president of the Austrian Chamber of Agriculture (Landwirtschaftskammer Österreich, LKÖ), said the situation on fields was already more difficult than at the same point a year earlier.
