Vienna, 04 July 2026
The supercomputer MUSICA was officially inaugurated in Austria on 3 July 2026 and, according to its operators, ranks among the 100 fastest computer systems in the world with a computing power of 45.11 petaflops.
The distributed system is installed at the Vienna, Linz, and Innsbruck locations and is coordinated by the Johannes Kepler University (JKU). Under the name Multi-Site Computer-Austria, it pools the computing capacities of several sites into a shared supercomputer available to researchers from across the country.
With investment costs of around 36 million euros, MUSICA is one of the largest scientific infrastructure projects realized in Austria in recent years. The funds cover not only the hardware but also operations, networking of the sites, and the expansion of the software environment.
