Every third adolescent in Germany feels massively burdened by school stress, according to a survey conducted by the health insurer Barmer, as the company announced with reference to a new study.
What the study shows
The investigation, commissioned by Barmer, concludes that a significant proportion of adolescents experience strong psychological strain in their daily school life. Christoph Straub pointed out the urgency of taking this development seriously, according to the Deutsche Presse-Agentur. The health insurer sees this as a signal that prevention, school-based support, and better guidance for young people must move more into focus.
The study joins a growing number of surveys pointing to an increase in psychological complaints among adolescents. Experts attribute the strain to factors including performance pressure, high expectations in the school environment, and a dense weekly schedule. The spread of social media is also cited in the debate as an amplifying factor.
