A bear broke into a family's home in Shizukuishi in the northern Japanese prefecture of Iwate on Monday evening, opened the refrigerator, and scattered its contents across the kitchen.
As an official told the AFP news agency on Wednesday, "a family in northern Japan called the police after a bear opened the refrigerator and then scattered the contents." The animal subsequently searched for food in a food waste bin in front of the house. "Footprints indicated the animal subsequently 'made its way back out through a back door next to the kitchen'."
Background of the incident
According to reports, the incident occurred on Monday evening in Shizukuishi in Iwate Prefecture. Shizukuishi is located in the Tohoku region in the north of the Japanese main island of Honshu. In recent days, "at least four other households reported bear break-ins there," according to the police official.
