Five people were injured on Wednesday in a post office in the Japanese city of Nagoya after a foreign national accidentally discharged bear repellent spray.

According to authorities in Nagoya, the deterrent spray was released on Wednesday in a post office branch in the central Japanese city. Eight people reported feeling unwell, five of whom were taken to hospital. This was reported to the AFP news agency by a fire department spokesperson.

The person responsible for the incident apologized, according to police, and stated that the spray had been discharged unintentionally. According to the authorities, the individual is a foreign national. The fire department stated: "However, there were no reports of serious injuries."
