Vienna, October 28, 2026
Norbert Totschnig was invited on October 28, 2026, to hold ministerial-level talks on digital sequence information of genetic resources after the Irish Council Presidency made such a request.
The negotiations are taking place on the sidelines of the Biodiversity Summit. The meeting concerns so-called digital sequence information, or DSI, of genetic resources. The Irish Council Presidency had asked Totschnig to negotiate the issue at ministerial level with representatives from Finland and Belgium.
DSI refers to digital information on genetic resources. The issue therefore concerns the use of and access to biological data. The available facts identify neither a specific negotiating outcome nor any additional participating states.
The Irish Council Presidency is responsible for the requested ministerial negotiations in this context. Finland and Belgium are named as representatives of the other side, or negotiating party. The verified report explicitly states that Totschnig will act at ministerial level.
