Nearly 3.4 million citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina were called on October 3 to vote to renew the central Parliament as well as the country's two regional parliaments, in an election that also designated local executives.
The double election, held in Bosnia and Herzegovina, invited voters to go to the polls to designate their representatives at the national level as well as in the two entities that make up the country, the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Republika Srpska. Some 3.4 million people were registered on the electoral rolls, according to data communicated by the authorities and relayed by several media outlets, including the AFP agency.
Beyond the renewal of the legislative chambers, the vote also concerned the designation of presidents and local officials. The country's institutional complexity, structured around a central state, two entities, and a special district, makes it one of the most fragmented electoral systems in Europe.
