Brandenburg is the nationwide leader in the share of students living in dormitories, while at the same time students in the state face a tight housing market, as an analysis by the Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung (CHE) in Gütersloh shows.

A total of 25.1 percent live in a dormitory, according to the CHE evaluation. This makes Brandenburg the nationwide leader in the provision of dormitory places — measured by the relative figure. By comparison, in Berlin only around eight percent of students live in a dormitory.

Dormitories and private rental apartments dominate

The majority of students, at 34.4 percent, live in a private rental apartment. In this category, Brandenburg is above the national average of 27.8 percent. This figure underscores that a considerable share of Brandenburg's students find their way onto the private housing market.
