Brandenburg's Interior Minister Jan Redmann (CDU) has warned the state parliament's interior committee about a growing threat from right-wing extremist youth groups that are also targeting Christopher Street Days.
Warning of Violence Potential
In the interior committee of the Brandenburg state parliament, Redmann spoke in clear terms on Wednesday. "These groups pose a significant potential for violence," the CDU politician stated, according to the German Press Agency. He sees this as "an increasing problem in Brandenburg" and emphasized that the security authorities are taking the situation seriously.
The numerical dimension is particularly concerning. "This phenomenon of the New Right, in terms of numbers (...) is simply of a magnitude that has now become a significant risk to internal security in Brandenburg," Redmann explained to the deputies. CSDs, or Christopher Street Days, commemorate the rights of queer people and are a target for the scene. "In this context, we must note that we have several such groups," the minister said.
