The Bremen space consortium German Offshore Spaceport Alliance (Gosa) is working on a special vessel with a launch ramp from which mini-rockets are to be sent into space, but the demonstration launch planned for the North Sea has been postponed once again.
The idea sounds unusual: Instead of launching from a spaceport on land, small rockets are to take off from a ship in the future. „Spezialisten tüfteln an einem Schiff, von dem aus Mini-Raketen ins All geschickt werden sollen,“ says a dpa report. The project is being driven forward by the German Offshore Spaceport Alliance (Gosa) consortium, which includes several Bremen-based companies, among them the space company OHB. Gosa's goal is to launch a small rocket from sea – effectively relocating the spaceport onto the water.
