Britain's Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport said on Wednesday it would not intervene in the proposed $110 billion merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery after extracting legally binding commitments from Paramount over its UK broadcasting and on-demand entertainment activities.
The decision ends a regulatory review that had cast uncertainty over one of the largest media tie-ups ever proposed. Under the arrangement, Paramount has offered written guarantees covering its British television channels, streaming services and other on-demand operations, allowing the government to step back from a formal phase-two investigation.
