A 36-year-old hiker was attacked and seriously injured by a brown bear in the municipality of Stranavy in Slovakia on Tuesday evening.

Attack at the edge of the forest

According to the rescue service, the man was hiking on a trail in the evening when the bear attacked him at the transition between a meadow and the adjacent forest. According to the Slovak television channel TV Markiza, which reported on the incident on Wednesday morning, the hiker suffered serious injuries, primarily bite wounds to the neck area.

A spokesperson for the rescue services told the TASR news agency about the transport of the injured person: "We flew the 36-year-old patient with injuries to the neck area by helicopter to the hospital in Zilina." The man was accordingly taken by helicopter to the hospital in Žilina.
