The Bundeskartellamt has approved the takeover of 36 Tegut supermarkets by the Bremen-based smart-store chain Tante Enso in Thuringia, Hesse, and Northern Bavaria.

The Bundeskartellamt, under President Andreas Mundt, cleared the acquisition of the 36 stores by Tante Enso from the Swiss cooperative Migros Zurich. As the cartel office announced, the approval covers locations in rural regions of Thuringia, Hesse, and Northern Bavaria. This moves part of the Tegut chain's sales process, which has been ongoing since March, into a decisive phase.

Tante Enso currently has a comparatively small market position in the food retail sector and operates primarily in rural regions. The Bremen-based company runs just under 90 semi-automated mini-supermarkets across Germany. According to the cartel office, the group generated revenue of around 40 million euros in 2025. The takeover would strengthen a smaller competitor in a market shaped by a few large corporate groups, Mundt explained.
