The Inspector of the Army, Lieutenant General Christian Freuding, announced a significantly faster integration of drones and unmanned weapons systems into the Bundeswehr during a visit to the NATO exercise "Freedom Shield 2026" in Lithuania.

Panzerbrigade 45, which was commissioned last year, is training combat on Lithuanian soil for the first time as part of the "Freedom Shield 2026" exercise and has brought 350 drones, according to the Bundeswehr. During his visit to the maneuver, Freuding said that the interaction between armored troops and units controlling drones is of "highest importance" for the land forces. He was shown command posts and concepts for the use of drones on the sidelines of the exercise.
