The incident occurred on Wednesday (local time) on Boulevard Lazaro Cardenas, a main street in the resort town of Cabo San Lucas. Following the Mexican team's final group-stage match at the World Cup, numerous supporters had gathered there to celebrate the victory. A car drove into this group, according to a statement from the city administration.

Alberto Renteria Santana, Secretary General of the Los Cabos city administration, explained that the driver was traveling in the area and accelerated when he encountered a group of people in the street.
