Carinthian Governor Daniel Fellner (SPÖ) called on the federal government on Monday to bring forward the summer holidays by around two weeks in view of the heat burden in schools, so that the school year could already end at the end of June.
Heat build-up in schools as central argument
In a press release, Fellner pointed out that summer temperatures in classrooms had by now reached unbearable levels. "Die Klassenzimmer werden zu Hitzestau-Zonen", said the governor. If the summer holidays were brought forward by two weeks, one could "Hitzestaus in den Klassenzimmern ausweichen", said Fellner.
As further evidence of the need for a forward shift, Fellner cited climate change and its concrete effects on domestic arable farming.
