Carinthian SPÖ Governor Daniel Fellner gave a skeptical assessment on the Ö1 midday journal of the federal SPÖ's proposal for mandatory exercises for civilian servants and simultaneously described his predecessor Peter Kaiser as the best candidate for the office of Federal President.

Fellner said that the meaningfulness of such mandatory exercises had not yet become apparent to him. In disaster operations, one usually relies on voluntary structures: „halte ich nicht für zielgerichtet“. The SPÖ at the federal level had put forward a „9+2“ model for civilian service, which provides for mandatory exercises or training.

At the same time, the governor defended the SPÖ's demand for a longer civilian service in principle. An extended civilian service also relieves the affected deployment organizations, Fellner argued. For basic military service, the SPÖ advocates the „6+2“ model.
