The US health agency CDC has named shredded iceberg lettuce from Taco Bell locations in five US states as the likely cause of a wave of cyclosporiasis with more than 1,600 confirmed infections so far.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are urgently warning against consuming certain salad products from the Taco Bell fast-food chain. "Do not eat shredded iceberg lettuce from Taco Bell locations in Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio, and West Virginia," the health agency warned. According to the agency, the affected products are those sold at locations in these five states.

Scale of the wave

The background is a severe wave of cyclosporiasis infections that has been spreading across the US for weeks. According to the CDC, more than 1,600 cases have now been confirmed. The agency assumes the actual number is significantly higher: an additional 5,100 suspected cases are still being investigated, it was said midweek.
