Bonn, 8 June 2026

Two weeks of UN climate talks at the expert level began in Bonn on Monday. More than 6,500 participants from 186 countries are preparing the next UN Climate Change Conference (COP31) in November in the Turkish city of Antalya.

At the seat of the UN Climate Secretariat in Bonn, two weeks of expert-level negotiations on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and international climate finance began on Monday.

The ten-day conference in Bonn serves to prepare the next UN Climate Change Conference in November in the Turkish city of Antalya, which will be hosted by Türkiye in cooperation with Australia (COP31). More than 6,500 participants from 186 countries are registered for the conference. Bonn is the seat of the UN Climate Secretariat, which coordinates international climate policy.

German Environment Minister Schneider, the SPD politician, stressed the importance of multilateral cooperation at the opening. While conflicts were increasing worldwide, the UN continued to work on joint responses to the climate crisis, he said. That was not a matter of course. The United Nations remained the central place where global challenges were addressed.
