Within the Austrian federal government, initial negotiations are beginning on a renewed fuel price brake, after the median diesel price has once again reached nearly two euros per liter, with gasoline just slightly below the March peak.

According to E-Control data, diesel cost a nationwide median of 1.989 euros per liter on Tuesday, while gasoline stood at 1.864 euros. Gasoline thus remains only slightly below the peak of around 1.9 euros from March, when diesel had even reached around 2.2 euros. By comparison, in the week before the start of the Iran war in February, gasoline had cost a median of 1.52 euros and diesel 1.57 euros.
