Health workers in the Democratic Republic of Congo are receiving the Ervebo Ebola vaccine as the World Health Organization warns that an ongoing outbreak in the country remains out of control.

The vaccination drive targets frontline medical staff who are at heightened risk of exposure to the Ebola virus, which is transmitted through direct bodily contact and contact with bodily fluids. According to the World Health Organization, the outbreak has not been brought under control, raising concerns about further transmission among health workers and the communities they serve.

Ebola fever is a life-threatening viral illness that produces highly contagious fever accompanied by diarrhea and bleeding. The virus spreads through close physical contact and exposure to the fluids of infected individuals, making hospital settings and household care particularly dangerous without proper protective measures.
