Prices for the new construction of conventional residential buildings in Germany rose by 5 percent in May 2026 compared to the same month last year, as the Federal Statistical Office in Wiesbaden announced.

The increase has thus accelerated significantly: In February, the rise had still been 3.3 percent. "From February to May, construction prices rose by 2.4 percent," the statisticians explained. All price information refers to construction work on the building including value-added tax.

Individual trades became particularly more expensive. "Roofing work as well as carpentry and timber construction work each cost 7.3 percent more," it said. Prices for earthworks also rose significantly: "Die Preise für Erdarbeiten zogen um 5,4 Prozent an." Prices for shell construction work on residential buildings rose by 4.9 percent in May compared to the same month last year.
