Conflicting reports circulated on Monday regarding possible negotiations between the United States and Iran in Doha: US President Donald Trump announced a meeting, while Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi declared such information to be "not correct".

Contradictions Between Washington and Tehran

Trump wrote on Monday on his online platform Truth Social that the meeting would "take place tomorrow in Doha." Previously, US media had reported, citing the White House, that Iran had requested a meeting. On the same day, Gharibabadi contradicted this account to Iranian media. A round would take place "as soon as the prerequisites are created and agreement is reached on the date and venue," Gharibabadi said, according to the Iranian news agency ISNA.

A spokesperson also stated upon inquiry: "Holding technical sessions of the working groups is not planned for this week." Consultations would nevertheless continue through intermediaries.
