Cottbus, 11 July 2026

A Christopher Street Day demonstration with an expected roughly 500 participants took place in Cottbus on Saturday, about a week and a half after several suspected far-right attacks in the city.

Security situation in the run-up

The parade began in the afternoon at 4:00 p.m. and ended at 7:30 p.m. Organizers said they expected around 500 participants. Cottbus has long been considered a hotspot for right-wing extremism. Last year there had been protests from the far-right scene against the CSD in Cottbus. There had also been protests during the 2025 CSD in the city, according to the report.

In the run-up to the demonstration, several attacks over the past week had caused growing unease. Police are investigating on suspicion of attempted murder following an arson attack on the alternative housing project "Zelle 79" in Cottbus. Investigators are also examining an attempted arson attack on a club in Cottbus. A window at the Greens' party office was smashed. Earlier in the month there had also been several offenses suspected of having a right-wing extremist background, including incendiary devices thrown at an alternative housing project.
